Meet Summer Woods, A One Call Care Navigator

For an injured worker with complex care needs, requiring extensive post-injury care to aide in recovery, One Call is a key player you want on your team. With patient-centric solutions and proven clinical protocols, we can help improve health outcomes, return to work times, and reduce overall claims and administrative costs.
At the heart of our Complex Care offering is a team of One Call Care Navigators. Every Complex Care case is assigned to a Care Navigator to provide expert multidisciplinary care, craft customized care plans and manage care through the entire recovery journey.
What does a One Call Care Navigator do?
One Call Care Navigators are assigned to holistically view each patient’s circumstance and coordinate individualized care with qualified, independent providers.
The Care Navigator is the central point of contact for all stakeholders — patient, clinical provider, workers’ compensation carrier, nurse case manager and claim adjuster. They bring everyone together, early in the process, to establish an evidence-based recovery pathway with clearly defined objectives and expectations. Each pathway is personalized for treatment, yet based on verified clinical outcomes.

Meet Summer Woods, a One Call Care Navigator
One of our stand-out Care Navigators is Summer Woods, who has been a dedicated member of the One Call team for almost 17 years! Summer is a registered nurse and currently serves as a Senior Clinical Care Navigator. Prior to her current role, Summer managed catastrophic claims as a CAT nurse.
Clearly, Summer has a passion for serving others. We had the opportunity to sit down with Summer to discover what she loves about her job.
What led you to become a nurse?
I’ve always been a person who genuinely cares about the well-being of others. I chose to be a nurse so I could positively impact the lives of those I serve.
What makes you passionate about being a One Call Care Navigator?
I’m passionate about being honest and building trusting relationships with the those I work with. If you say you are going to do something, do everything you can to do it. If you run across a challenge that prevents you from doing something, still do everything you can, but be honest about the problem.
What do you love most about being a One Call Care Navigator?
What I love most about being a Care Navigator is the challenge of examining catastrophic situations. By understanding the whole person, I can determine their needs, coordinate the products and services they require, and administer treatment at the appropriate time.
When you’re able to witness a person, who has encountered a life changing experience, transition from being totally dependent to successfully managing life on their own—it is truly a rewarding experience. That is how I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I not only did my job as a Care Navigator, but I contributed to making a difference in someone’s life.
